SEO - AEO - GEO

Rank for the searches that actually bring in customers.

Overview

We take a technical and content-led approach to SEO — fixing what's holding your site back, then building authority through content that earns rankings over time.

Detail

Search has changed. Our approach has too.

Search engine optimisation used to mean ranking in Google for the terms your customers search for. That is still true — and still the highest-volume source of organic traffic for most businesses. But search behaviour is changing faster than at any point in the last decade. AI-powered answer engines now respond to queries directly, without the user ever clicking a link. Generative AI tools are becoming a discovery layer sitting above traditional search. If your business is only optimising for one of these channels, you are already leaving visibility on the table.

We approach visibility across three connected disciplines — SEO, AEO, and GEO — because that is what a complete search strategy looks like in 2025 and beyond.

SEO — Search Engine Optimisation

The foundation. Getting your content found, indexed, and ranked by Google Search Console for the terms your potential customers actually type into a search bar.

We take a technical and content-led approach. Technical SEO addresses the foundations: crawlability, indexation, page speed, Core Web Vitals, structured data, and site architecture. A fast, well-structured website underpins everything — without it, content investment is undermined. Once the foundation is solid, content strategy builds authority through relevant, genuinely useful content that earns rankings and links over time.

We do keyword research grounded in commercial intent — not just what has search volume, but what signals buying intent and where you can realistically compete. We do not promise rankings we cannot deliver. We set realistic timeframes and measure the right things: organic traffic, rankings for target terms, and organic revenue attribution.

AEO — Answer Engine Optimisation

Answer engines — primarily Google's AI Overviews, but also Perplexity, Bing Copilot, and others — respond to queries by synthesising information from multiple sources into a single answer. The user gets their answer without clicking through to any website.

For businesses, this creates two problems and one opportunity. The problems: your existing traffic may decline as some queries are answered before anyone reaches your site, and brand-new visitors who would have found you via search may never see you at all. The opportunity: if your content is the source the answer engine draws on, your brand appears in the answer — often with a citation link — for queries you might not have ranked for at all in traditional search.

Optimising for answer engines requires a different approach to content. Answer engines favour content that:

  • Answers specific questions clearly and completely in a concise format
  • Uses structured data (schema markup) to make the content machine-readable
  • Demonstrates expertise, authority, and trustworthiness — the signals Google's quality systems use to evaluate sources
  • Covers topics in sufficient depth that it is the most useful resource on the subject
  • Is structured with clear headings, definitions, and direct answers near the top of the page

AEO is not a separate content strategy — it is an evolution of good SEO practice. The same content that earns traditional search rankings, when structured correctly, is also the content most likely to be cited by AI answer engines.

GEO — Generative Engine Optimisation

Generative AI tools — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and others — are increasingly used as research and discovery tools. People ask them which agency to hire, which product to buy, which service provider to use. The AI responds with recommendations drawn from what it knows about the web — which is largely determined by what is publicly indexed, cited, and discussed.

GEO is the practice of ensuring your business appears positively and accurately in AI-generated responses. It is the newest of the three disciplines and the least codified — the signals that influence AI recommendations are still being understood — but the early evidence points to a consistent set of factors:

  • Volume and quality of mentions across the web — reviews, press, directories, industry publications
  • Consistency of brand information across all public sources (name, address, services, positioning)
  • Depth and authority of your own content on topics relevant to your business
  • Structured data that clearly identifies what your business does, where it operates, and who it serves
  • Presence on platforms the AI models are trained on — LinkedIn, industry directories, reputable publications

Many of the signals that matter for GEO overlap with strong SEO and AEO practice. A business with excellent SEO fundamentals, comprehensive and well-structured content, and a consistent online presence is already better positioned for AI visibility than one that has neglected these areas.

What is included in an SEO, AEO, and GEO engagement

  • Technical SEO audit — comprehensive review of what is holding the site back
  • Keyword and topic research — commercial-intent terms your audience actually searches
  • On-page optimisation — titles, meta descriptions, headings, internal linking
  • Core Web Vitals optimisation — speed and experience signals that affect rankings
  • Structured data implementation — schema markup for answers, products, services, and local business
  • Content strategy and production — articles, landing pages, FAQ content, and supporting material
  • AEO content structuring — reformatting existing content to answer specific questions clearly
  • GEO audit — reviewing your brand's current AI visibility and identifying gaps
  • Citation and presence building — ensuring consistent, accurate brand information across key platforms
  • Link building — earning backlinks through content and outreach, not buying them
  • Monthly reporting — traditional rankings and traffic, plus AI visibility monitoring

What good looks like

A business with strong SEO, AEO, and GEO presence appears when potential customers search Google, when they ask an AI tool for a recommendation, and when an answer engine synthesises a response to their question. Each channel reinforces the others — authority built in one tends to carry across all three. This is why a fragmented approach to search visibility, treating each channel as separate, produces weaker results than a unified strategy.

Visibility in search and AI is not maintained automatically. Algorithms update, competitors invest, and content ages. Our ongoing engagements include regular audits and adjustments to keep performance where it needs to be. If a site needs structural improvements before SEO investment will be effective, our high-performance websites and website design services address the foundation first.
